Habitual Threads is an unconventional jewelry line based in Philadelphia. The brand is a culmination of past interests, present ambitions, and future desires for designer and founder, Haley Vera.
The first necklace was created as a gift, inspired by a walk through the local hardware store. Forming the necklace in its beauty and simplicity unleashed freedom in Haley’s fashion design background, which had previously been channeled toward the often-daunting complexity of a full apparel line. It was simple and beautiful. She made more.
Habitualthreads.com launched in September 2016, sharing the first collection of necklaces available for online purchase. Having a web shop gives Haley the flexibility to bring the business with her, wherever life may take her. The Philadelphia studio apartment, flooded with natural light and filled with lush houseplants, currently serves as the temporary home for Habitual Threads.
After a couple weeks of business, HT received the invitation to join a handful of local shops and events in Philadelphia. Haley's vision for HT was refined at these face-to-face events where she had the opportunity to directly share her business with her customers and partners. Going to these events made Haley realize that her desires for HT were greater than simply selling her product.
At the start of the New Year, these developments led to an expansion of the vision for HT. Haley identified 5 basic needs that are often unmet in the lives of the people around her and around the world—food, water, shelter (safety), family, and mental health. She contacted non-profit organizations that provide these basic needs, to partner with her and her small business.
Her hope for HT is threefold: to share her product and profit with others, to connect people to causes – inspiring awareness, introspection and action, ultimately serving as a catalyst for customers to live with outward focus, and finally, to free individuals from their need through care provided by the partnering causes.
Meet Haley Vera.
Haley is a graduate from The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles where she earned her degree in Merchandise Product Development.
While at FIDM, Haley was inspired by the for-profit companies within the fashion industry who were committed to creating beautiful brands and product with business models that provide for people.
In 2014, she married her junior high sweetheart, Luke Vera, and together they moved to the east coast for his training in dental school. Their days are filled with coffee, studies, talks of the future, and at least one, "I love our apartment!" moment. Their life is made up of long days and short weeks.
Haley currently works part-time to support their party-of-two, while managing, designing, and dreaming for Habitual Threads. She cherishes hardware stores, coffee dates, cooking, decorating her apartment, her weekly counseling appointment, her family, and days she gets to stay home, make a mess, and create something new.
Let all that you do be done in love.
1 Corinthians 16:14
You Lord, give perfect peace to those who keep their purpose firm and put their trust in you.
